Well as in recent, Turkey decided to covert Hagia Sophia, a 1500 years old building into mosque again, a concern from different parts of world has arised. Well It was a mosque before within the ottoman empire and was converted to museum in 1934 by mustafa Kamel Atatürk, ( president of turkey) as secular gesture. As turkey's long before history belongs to ottoman empire, we are here with a few facts of ottoman empire.
1# Ottoman empire was established by Osman l in 1299, a leader of tribe named Kay. He established his capital at sogut that time.
2# Ottoman empire was established in 1299 but still it failed to captured the Constantinople till 1453, then capital of Byzantine empire. With the capture of Constantinople, Byzantine empire subsumed totally in Ottoman empire.
3# Constantinople was captured by Mehmed ll, who also started a centralised bureaucracy and build Topkai Palace within ottoman empire. Since the seizure of Constantinople, Hagia Sophia converted into mosque till 1934.
4# It was the empire of Salim l when the part of North Africa and west Arab including macca and madina assimilated into ottoman empire (1512-1520). Since then only Sultan of Ottoman empire considered as legitimate calipha.
5#Till 1517, majority of population of Ottoman empire was Christian. It was changed only after seizure of Egypt and middle East.
6# Empire under Suleiman l considered as zenith of Ottoman empire. It was the time when ottoman navel fleet dominated the seas. At that time it had full control over trade between Europe and Asia as all the routes passed through the Anatolia. It was a period when ottoman empire spread over three continent- north africa, south east Europe and west Asia. All the trade in sea of Marmara and Aegean sea controlled by the ottoman empire.
7# 19th century considered as decline period off Ottoman empire. It was the time when Empire was declared as bankrupt(1876). And it was the period when it was called as "sickman of the Europe". In late 19th century, Ottoman empire fought two major wars, Crimean war (1853-56) and Russo-Turkish war (1877-78), which put the Ottoman empire on backfoot economically as well as faced territorial loss.
8# It was the 1908 when young turk revolution emerged within ottoman empire and a demand of constitutional government proposed. Well It was also the time of many genocide which was carried out within the Ottoman empire (Armenian Genocide). Well after the loss of Central powers in WW ll, Ottoman empire disintegrated into many parts.
9# Well in 1923, a Turkish war of independence was fought by Mustafa Kamel Pasha and he established a Republic of Turkey after Treaty of Lausanne .
10#After the establishment of Republic of Turkey, monarchy had been abolished and last sultan, Mehmed Vl, was expelled from Constantinople (Istanbul). Well after establishment of Republic of Turkey, under Mustafa Kamel Atatürk , Turkey enjoyed a exponential growth. He was president till 1938, and considered as father of modern Turkey.
