Before understanding the Higgs Boson, it is very important and relevant to understand Higgs Field. As per the field theory universe is being filled with various field e.g. electromagnetic field, gravity field. Higgs field is one of them those have occupied the universe. It is the only field which have been spread everywhere ubiquitously.
Well before going ahead It is needed to know that as per standard model of particle physics , fundamental particles of any matter are fermions ( which is being subdivided into quarks and leptons).
Through various mathematical experiment, It is assumed by the scientists and researchers that no fundamental particles consist mass. All the fundamental particles gain masses only when they interact with the higgs field.
Well now as It is assumed that all fundamental particles are mass less and they gain masses only after interacting with higgs field, then from where these fundamental particles get generated? So here comes the one more postulation that the universe is being filled with different type of field, even it is assumed that every fundamental particles have their own field and when these field get excited they create ripples and these ripples form a massless particles. For e.g. when a quark field is get excited it creates a form of ripple which become a form of massless particle, and eventually gain mass after interacting higgs field.
What could happen if higgs field get excited? It will create a ripple and form a higgs particle. And even higgs particle gains mass from higgs field only which is also known as higgs boson.
Higgs field was first proposed by physists Peter Higgs as the solution of reason for fundamental particle's mass. In 2012 to verify the existence of higgs field two charged particle (proton) had been collided in LHC ( large hadron collider) at CERN ( European organisation for Nuclear Research) at every high speed. It was assumed that with such collision, a ripple will form in higgs field and higgs boson will be created eventually for a very minute time duration ( nearly 10^-22 sec), and on studying its properties will lead to confirmation of higgs field. In 2013 , the existence of higgs field was being confirmed.
